NAMWATER has started controlled water releases from the Naute Dam after heavy rainfall in the Hardap and //Karas regions caused inflows to push the dam’s level above full capacity.
The water utility said the dam had reached 116.9% capacity following significant inflows recorded over the past few days.
The controlled releases are being carried out to maintain safe operating levels and manage the increased water volume.
NamWater advised communities and stakeholders located downstream of the dam to exercise caution and take precautionary measures due to the expected increase in water flow.
