COLD, rainy conditions and even hail characterised the southern regions’ weather on Wednesday, and this may only be the beginning of a particularly turbulent period, as more intense weather is expected on Thursday.
According to the Namibia Meteorological Services, heavy thundershowers are expected in the southern parts of the country on Thursday, with possible flash floods. These rainy conditions will likely be accompanied by cold, windy weather.
While the south is expected to bear the brunt of the severe weather, other parts of the country will also see rain and low temperatures on Thursday. The Namibia Meteorological Services has predicted that some eastern and central interior areas are also likely to see showers.

Rain showers are also expected along the coastal parts of the country. Forecasts indicate thundershowers in the southern coastal areas, while other coastal areas are likely to experience fog patches.
A number of places are already experiencing severe weather — most notably parts of the Kalahari, which were not only shrouded in fog on Wednesday but were also affected by hail.
Several other areas, particularly in the south, experienced rain showers between Tuesday night and Wednesday, including Keetmanshoop, Rosh Pinah, Alte Kalköfen Lodge, Tranetal near Aroab, and Mariental.
Heavy fog was also reported across multiple regions on Wednesday, including Omaruru in the Erongo Region, as well as Khorixas and surrounding areas in the Kunene Region.
The public is urged to exercise caution on Thursday, as heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding in some areas.
