Ex-Governor Walde Ndevashiya honoured as Oipyaiwa Primary School gets new name

Staff Reporter

HAVING one’s name linked to a learning institution comes with responsibility, said Walde Ndevashiya, Namibia’s High Commissioner to Nigeria and former Ohangwena Regional Governor, on the occasion of the official renaming ceremony of the Oipyaiwa Primary School in Oipyaiwa village, Ohangwena Region.

The school was renamed Walde Ndevashiya Primary School in 2023, but the official unveiling of the new name only took place this week.

Ndevashiya said he was deeply grateful to the Oipyaiwa community for associating his name with the school, despite the fact that he was neither born in the village nor originates from that community.

He accepted the honour, saying that having one’s name linked to a learning institution comes with responsibility and that he will not betray the trust the community has placed in him.

He demonstrated this by donating a photocopy machine, hygiene packages, and school uniforms for learners.

Another significant donation came from Tuli Nashidengo of Archetype Project Consultants, who pledged N$40,000 to the school.

The school was established 11 years ago with 35 learners. It now has 105 learners in Grades 1 to 3.
