NAMIBIAN Ambassador to Angola, Leonard Iipumbu, is on a working visit to Angola’s southern Cunene Province to identify concrete opportunities for cross-border cooperation aimed at building a more robust economic sector for both countries.
The visit, which runs from 7 to 11 June, included a courtesy meeting on Monday with the provincial government in Ondjiva. Iipumbu was welcomed by Deputy Governor for Political, Social and Economic Affairs, Apolo Ndinoulenga, who received him on behalf of Provincial Governor Gerdina Didalelwa.
Iipumbu is also scheduled to visit the Cafu Canal, a large-scale water transfer project that Angolan authorities say is designed to transport water to Namibia. Once completed, the canal is expected to ensure a guaranteed water supply for Namibia’s four northern regions.

The ambassador noted that in April, Namibia’s power utility NamPower and Angola’s Rede Nacional de Transporte de Electricidade (RNT-EP) signed the Power Interconnection Project — a landmark N$941 million cross-border electricity agreement linking the grids of both countries. The project is slated for completion in 2029.
During his visit, Iipumbu will also meet Namibian citizens incarcerated at Peu-Peu Prison to offer encouragement and assure them that they have not been abandoned.
“They committed crimes and must naturally answer for them, but they remain our citizens,” Iipumbu told the local media, adding that he will use his visit to listen to their concerns, inform their respective families, and assess what can be done within the regulations and norms in force between Angola and Namibia.
