SHADIKONGORO Green Scheme in the Kavango East Region has received praise from President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah for improved agricultural production, with the Head of State noting significant progress in output compared to previous seasons during her visit to the Mukwe Constituency project.
The President made the remarks during her ongoing tour of Green Scheme projects in the region, where she assessed performance and operational conditions at the scheme.
She was briefed by Assistant Farm Manager Lima Kativa, who reported that despite exceptionally heavy rainfall during the season, the scheme has recorded encouraging progress. He said the sunflower crop has already been successfully harvested, while a strong maize harvest is expected in the coming weeks.
Management also outlined plans to diversify production in the next planting season, including the cultivation of watermelon, pumpkin, cabbage and butternut.
While all centre pivots are currently fully operational, Kativa raised concerns over ageing and insufficient farming equipment, which continues to limit the scheme’s ability to reach its full production potential.
