Unsupervised swimming claims another child’s life in Omusati

Staff Reporter

A TEN-YEAR-OLD boy drowned on Friday while swimming with other children in a pond at Iihenguti village in the Omusati Region.

The deceased has been identified as Ndamanguluka Shaanika.

According to Omusati Regional Commander Commissioner Ismael Basson, Shaanika was swimming with children aged between 8 and 10 when he drowned.

“When the deceased drowned, the other children ran and informed elders, who came to retrieve the body,” said Basson.

Police and traditional leaders have repeatedly urged parents and guardians to monitor children’s water activities, warning that unsupervised swimming continues to endanger young lives following several drowning incidents in recent years.
