FOUR of the six inmates who escaped from police holding cells at Onandjaba in the Omusati Region have been rearrested and three of the five stolen firearms recovered.
Regional Police Commander Ismael Basson said that Angolan citizen Eliaser Immanuel was the first to be rearrested on Monday and was found without a firearm.
Three other escapees, who are all Namibian citizens — Amukwaya Matheus, Kronelius Nestor Shitaleni, and Awala Johannes — were arrested later, with three guns found in their possession.
Nikodemus Junias and Festus Paulus remain at large.
The six inmates escaped after overpowering the on-duty officers and stealing their cellphones and five firearms: four pistols and one AK-47 assault rifle.
