THE Meat Corporation of Namibia (Meatco) and the Namibia Food and Allied Workers Union (NAFAU) have finalised wage negotiations for the 2026/2027 and 2027/2028 financial years.
Meatco announced that, under the agreement, employees within the bargaining unit will receive a 5% across-the-board basic salary increase during the 2026/2027 financial year, as well as a N$200 monthly increase in housing allowance. The cold allowance, however, will not see an increase. Meatco also confirmed that, for the 2027/2028 financial year, workers will benefit from a 6.5% across-the-board salary increase, with no changes to the housing or cold allowances.

“This agreement reflects the commitment of both management and organised labour to work together responsibly in the interests of employees, operational stability, and the long-term sustainability of Meatco,” Meatco’s Interim Chief Executive Officer, Ambassador Albertus Aochamub, said.
According to him, the agreement provides much-needed certainty and stability for the next two financial years, while also supporting Meatco’s ongoing recovery and growth plans.
“NAFAU is pleased that the negotiations were concluded amicably and through meaningful engagement. The agreement represents a balanced outcome that protects the interests of workers while recognising the current operational realities facing the company. We appreciate the willingness of the parties to engage in good faith and to reach common ground,” NAFAU’s Deputy General Secretary, Willem Absalom, added.
