Pope Leo XIV appoints Linus Ngenomesho as Apostolic Vicar of Rundu

Staff Reporter

POPE Leo XIV has appointed Catholic priest Linus Ngenomesho as Apostolic Vicar of the Apostolic Vicariate of Rundu.

The appointment was announced on Monday.

The 56-year-old Ngenomesho, who was ordained as a priest in 2002, has served as Apostolic Administrator of the Rundu Vicariate since 2020.

He took over following the retirement of Bishop Joseph Shipandeni Shikongo, who had led the Vicariate since its creation in 1994.

An apostolic vicariate is a territorial jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Church in a place where a formal diocese has not yet been established.

It is governed by a vicar apostolic (titular bishop) who manages the territory on behalf of the Pope, rather than as a residential bishop in his own right.
