FEMALE graduates outnumbered male graduates at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) May 2026 graduation ceremony, which recently took place in Windhoek.
This was highlighted by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who addressed the ceremony held under the theme: “Advancing Knowledge and Technological Innovations for Sustainable Development.”
The president revealed that 2,962 graduates were conferred across all disciplines at the NUST May 2026 graduation, comprising 1,187 men and 1,775 women. She further noted that 164 candidates were awarded Master’s degrees, with 55 men and 109 women, while 13 candidates obtained Doctoral degrees, consisting of four men and nine women.

“These figures are not merely statistics. They reflect lives transformed, families uplifted, and a nation that continues to advance in knowledge, inclusion, and opportunity. However, what is disturbing is that those figures do not reflect the female-to-male population ratio of 51.2% and 48.8%, respectively. The message is clear: we must take the issue of the boy child seriously if we are to strengthen our social fiber and economic advancement. In the words of the Namibian First Gentleman, while empowering the girl child, the boy child we neglect is the future husband,” the president said.
She stressed the importance of enabling both males and females to see themselves as equal partners in development, while noting the need to further strengthen boys’ participation and success within the academic system. The President also noted that national development is measured not only by infrastructure, but also by the quality of human capital.
“Therefore, as a nation blessed with abundant natural resources, we must invest in educating and training our people to strengthen value addition and job creation,” the president added.
