NAMPOWER has scheduled a planned power outage at the Von Bach Base substation on 22 May 2026, a move that will temporarily disrupt water supply operations at the NamWater Von Bach Treatment Plant and affect customers in Windhoek, Okahandja and surrounding areas.
The power interruption is scheduled from 07:00 to 18:00 and is intended to allow NamPower to extend the 11kV and 66kV busbar connections to a mobile substation.
According to NamPower, the outage will directly affect electricity supply to the NamWater administration building and pump stations linked to the treatment plant.
NamWater has since informed key stakeholders and customers that the outage will interrupt water transfer operations during the shutdown period and until power is fully restored.
Areas expected to be affected include the Okahandja Municipality, City of Windhoek, Gross Barmen, Osona Military Base, Osona Village, Namib Poultry Industries, the Namibian Police roadblock area, Finkenstein, Herbothsbrick, Hosea Kutako International Airport and other customers supplied from the Von Bach Treatment Plant.
NamPower also requested permission to use NamWater’s internal road infrastructure to transport a mobile substation and a new transformer to the site. The utility indicated that the current gate entrance on the southern boundary fence would need to be widened to accommodate the abnormal load, with NamPower covering the associated costs.
The power utility further cautioned that, during the outage, the power supply should always be treated as live, as electricity may be restored without prior notice.
Both NamPower and NamWater apologised for any inconvenience caused by the planned interruption.
