A 33-YEAR-OLD man died instantly when he was struck by a tipper truck in Oshakati on Monday afternoon.
The accident occurred on the Oshakati–Ongwediva main road near the Oneshila Mini Market. A white Scania tipper truck, travelling towards Ongwediva, struck the pedestrian after he reportedly ran into the road.
Police said that the 30-year-old truck driver holds a valid driver’s licence and tested negative for alcohol.
It is alleged that the deceased, who is originally from Opuwo in the Kunene Region, had been playing dice games at a shebeen in the Ongwediva area the previous night, where he allegedly pawned his own cellphone and that of a friend, as well as a quantum trailer.
His next of kin have been informed.
