FARMS in the Kunene Region have sustained significant damage due to wildlife – especially elephants – which have destroyed properties and infrastructure, particularly in the Kamanjab Constituency.
This was highlighted by the Kunene Regional Councillor for the Kamanjab Constituency, Nicodemus Amutenya, who confirmed that several farms have sustained property damage. He stated that the damage caused by wildlife includes the destruction of water infrastructure, water tanks, agricultural fields, crops, and fencing.

“The Office of the Regional Councillor for Kamanjab Constituency has received numerous complaints from farmers in different areas of the constituency concerning damage caused by wild animals, especially elephants. The affected farms and areas include Elanslagte, Tokolodge, Restug Farm, Namatanga, the Gainasteb area, Stilte Farm, and many surrounding farms within the Kamanjab Constituency,” Amutenya said.
Considering the extent of the damage, the councillor welcomed the interventions to be implemented by the Ministry of Environment regarding elephant-related challenges in the Kunene Region, particularly in the Kamanjab Constituency.
