TWO suspects were arrested near Tsumeb after being found in possession of illegally hunted game meat and unlawfully transported firewood, in contravention of wildlife and forestry laws.
According to the police weekend crime report, the incident occurred on Friday at a roadblock along the Tsumeb–Tsintsabis road, approximately 2km from Tsumeb in the Oshikoto Region. Officers intercepted a white Hyundai truck carrying firewood and, upon searching the vehicle, discovered game meat and firewood that had allegedly been illegally obtained.
The confiscated items included warthog meat, four guinea fowl, and firewood, with a combined estimated value of N$12,846.00.
The two suspects, aged 35 and 46, were arrested on charges of illegally hunting game without a permit, as well as unlawfully transporting firewood without a valid permit.
They are expected to appear in the Tsumeb Magistrate’s Court.
