A WAVE of housebreaking incidents was reported across several towns over the weekend, with police recording multiple cases in Windhoek, Katutura, Outjo, Katima Mulilo and Outapi, resulting in significant financial losses and no arrests so far.
According to the police weekend crime report, in Windhoek West, unknown suspects broke into a residence after cutting through the roof and disabling the alarm system. Items valued at approximately N$90,800 were stolen. No recoveries have been made.
In a separate incident in Khomasdal, Katutura, suspects gained entry into a house by opening a window and bending burglar bars. Household items worth N$22,700 were stolen. No arrests have been made.
In Outjo, burglars targeted a shebeen in the Ehangano location. The suspects reportedly removed padlocks using an unknown object and dismantled a jackpot machine, stealing parts valued at N$44,240.
In Katima Mulilo’s Ngweze location, a housebreaking incident occurred. Suspects forced entry through a door and stole a cellphone and a laptop, with a combined value of about N$10,000. No suspects have been apprehended.
Another Windhoek incident was reported in Suiderhof, where suspects cut through barbed wire to access a property. They then cut burglar bars, forced entry into the house, and broke open a safe. The value of stolen items has not yet been determined. No arrests or recoveries have been made.
In Outapi, a shebeen at Oshihwashaaluholo Village in the Outapi Constituency was also targeted. Suspects broke a window, cut burglar bars, and stole cash, a jukebox, an electrical unit, a 3kg gas cylinder, and liquor, with a total value of N$17,967. No suspects have been arrested.
Police added that the weekend was marked by a high number of housebreaking cases and urged residents and business owners to remain vigilant. The public is advised to secure their properties, avoid leaving valuables in plain sight, and refrain from keeping large amounts of cash at home or business premises. Investigations into all cases are ongoing.
