TELECOM Namibia has confirmed that recent network service disruptions experienced across the country were caused by technical challenges affecting international connectivity, resulting in slower internet speeds and intermittent access for some users.
In a statement issued, the company said the disruptions were linked to a failure on external connectivity routes, which placed increased pressure on alternative network paths. This led to reduced service performance, particularly affecting mobile data and browsing services.
Telecom Namibia said its technical teams responded immediately upon detecting the issue and have been working continuously to stabilise the network and minimise the impact on customers. Several corrective measures have already been implemented, while additional upgrades and system enhancements are currently underway.
These measures include redirecting network traffic to maintain service availability, upgrading and reconfiguring critical network equipment, and strengthening capacity at major network nodes to improve overall resilience.
Chief Executive Officer Dr Stanley Shanapinda apologised for the inconvenience caused, adding that while the disruption originated from external factors, the company acted swiftly to restore services and implement safeguards.
He added that Telecom Namibia remains committed to improving network reliability and resilience, with ongoing investments aimed at enhancing service quality nationwide.
The company confirmed that services are steadily stabilising, with customers expected to experience continued improvements as restoration and optimisation efforts progress. Further updates will be communicated through official channels.
