UNKNOWN burglars broke into the Maxi Printing Shop at Ondangwa, leaving behind damaged padlocks and stealing three Canon cameras, a CD hard drive, and customers’ T-shirts and caps. The combined value is N$23,850.
Shop owner Max Mavulu said the burglary has disrupted his business and that he will have to compensate customers for their stolen goods. “I also have to rush to buy new cameras because many clients have booked me for important events,” he said.
When Informanté profiled Maxi Printing Shop last year, it was a booming business with lucrative contracts, five permanent workers, and seven casual staff.
Mavulu was a classic example of a young man who rose from rags to riches.
After completing Grade 12 ten years ago, he lacked money for further studies. He started a printing shop using his sister’s small printer and an old desktop computer. He formalised the business in 2022.
From making copies, printing, and scanning documents, he diversified into T-shirt printing and design. He secured lucrative contracts, including printing SWAPO Party 2024 campaign T-shirts, and also won the Ondangwa Town Council tender for town signboards.
The stolen items have not been recovered, and no arrest has been effected yet.
