LAW enforcement officers have arrested three suspects in Monday’s robbery of a betting outlet in Ondangwa.
Oshana Regional Police commander, Commissioner Naftal Lungameni Sakaria, said the trio was apprehended on Wednesday with the help of technology and public tip-offs.
The JSB betting shop in the Monte Carlo building was robbed while a 40-year-old woman was collecting cash from different outlets for banking.
When she arrived at Monte Carlo, she stayed in the parked company vehicle, and a shop assistant brought a money bag, which was placed under the passenger seat.
Three men then appeared, smashed the vehicle’s windows, attacked the driver, and grabbed the bag as the driver fled into a nearby bar. Onlookers who tried to intervene were allegedly threatened with a pistol. The suspects fled in a silver Golf 6 with Windhoek registration number N12623W.
Police later found that the number plates had been stolen from a vehicle parked at a workshop for repairs.
The stolen items included N$26,071.80 in cash and an iPhone 13 valued at N$13,000.
The breakthrough came two days later when the suspects were arrested and the getaway car impounded. Police recovered an iPhone, a pistol with ammunition, cash in coins and various denominations, and the shoes worn during the robbery.
“Criminals must be warned that it will be a mistake to come and commit crime in this region,” Sakaria said.
On behalf of Inspector-General Joseph Shikongo, he thanked the public for their cooperation. “Our relationship has improved tremendously,” he said, adding that NamPol will remain “boots on the ground” to keep the region safe.
