NAMIBIA welcomes the just-announced ceasefire in the Iran, United States, and Israel conflict and encourages the parties to continue engaging in dialogue without preconditions, the only foundation for enduring peace, said President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah in her State of the Nation Address today.
She expressed concern over the increasing conflicts in the Middle East, reaffirmed Namibia’s support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states, and emphasised the principle of non-interference in their internal affairs.
She noted that while the Government is continuing to advance its domestic agenda, it equally emphasises Namibia’s ongoing commitment to international relations and trade. “Our strategy remains rooted in fostering peaceful coexistence within the SADC Region, across Africa, and around the world; promoting multilateralism to support international order and stability; strengthening trade partnerships; and attracting foreign direct investment to promote inclusive growth for all Namibians,” she said.
On bilateral relations and cooperation, the President said that Namibia remains dedicated to strengthening both bilateral and multilateral partnerships, advancing the country’s national interests while contributing to peace, security, and prosperity across regional, continental, and global levels.
“Our principled stance on solidarity with Cuba remains steadfast. We also reaffirm our support for the rights of the Saharawi and Palestinian peoples to self-determination and independence, as outlined in the Charter of the United Nations and grounded in international law,” she said.
The President pointed out that, in keeping with the SADC tradition, she made official introductory visits to Angola, Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe immediately after taking office last year. “Namibia,” she said, “continues to advocate for reforming the United Nations system to improve coordination, responsiveness, and legitimacy, while pushing for Security Council reform that ensures Africa’s rightful representation.”
