THE commander of the Namibian Police in the Oshana Region, Commissioner Lungameni Sakaria, is strictly warning people who harbour intentions of smuggling drugs into the police holding cells to desist forthwith. He said that anyone who tries will surely be arrested.
“We will arrest them. It is no longer business as usual at our cells as we have adopted a new detection strategy,” he said shortly after yet another suspect was apprehended trying to smuggle drugs into the Oshakati police holding cells on Monday.

The male suspect, aged 24 and a resident of the Uupindi informal settlement, turned up at the police station with a container full of pieces of meat — with bailies of cannabis and “Yes” cigarettes hidden inside.
The drugs did not reach the holding cells due to vigilant police officers who detected the illegality and arrested the suspect.
The incident occurred about ten days after the arrest of another man, aged 29, who was apprehended when he brought food to a trial-awaiting suspect. Cannabis was discovered hidden in the food parcel.
