PRESIDENT Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is heading to Katima Mulilo today to conduct a first-hand assessment of the devastating floods sweeping through the Zambezi Region.
The visit comes as parts of the Zambezi Region are submerged, significantly disrupting residents’ lives, with the Zambezi River approaching the 7-metre mark.
The floods have displaced some communities, with entire villages submerged by the rising waters. The flooding has also led to the temporary closure of several schools, including Muzii Combined School, Mpukano Primary School, and Nakuntwe Combined School.

According to the Hydrological Services of Namibia, the Zambezi River reached a water level of 6.89 metres on Monday, 2.55 m higher than the level recorded on the same date last year.
The eastern Zambezi floodplains continue to fill rapidly, with backflow already observed near Ngoma Bridge and Lake Liambezi. The Chobe River at Ngoma Gate, which feeds into the Zambezi, stood at 3.86 m on Monday, adding to the swelling waters.
“A flood alert is therefore advised for the eastern Zambezi floodplains. Communities are urged to remain on high alert and to activate flood preparedness and response measures,” the Hydrological Services added.
