A TRAGIC incident unfolded on Monday in Okathitukambanda village, Omusati Region, when a 22-month-old boy succumbed to injuries allegedly inflicted by his family members, two-year-old twin boys, during unsupervised play.
According to the police, the incident occurred when four minor children were left at home with minimal supervision.
It is alleged that the twin brothers stuffed sand into the victim’s mouth, nose and eyes.
The victim, identified as Megameno Amweenye, was rushed to hospital but did not survive.
The incident has rekindled concerns about child safety and supervision in northern communities, where several incidents have been reported in recent years in which minor children drowned in water buckets or shallow waters after they were left at home without adult supervision.
