THE Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Esperance Luvindao, has officially appointed new members of the Namibia Medicines Regulatory Council (NMRC).
“The Council’s mandate is not ceremonial; it is a serious obligation to regulate medicines and related substances, ensuring that every product reaching the public is safe, effective, and of the highest quality. The new Council members are now custodians of public health and trust, and their decisions will directly impact the lives of patients, families, and communities across Namibia,” Luvindao said.

The minister warned that any attempt to compromise the Council’s integrity through corruption, favouritism, or abuse of authority would be met with firm action. She stressed that members must be guided by the Medicines and Related Substances Control Act No. 13 of 2003, provide evidence-based advice to the minister, and remain vigilant against counterfeit or substandard medicines.
“These are positions of immense responsibility and should be approached with the utmost seriousness. With systems reform comes great responsibility. The new Council has distinct responsibilities that must be upheld with the highest integrity,” said the Executive Director, Penda Ithindi.
The Ministry of Health confirmed that the newly appointed members of the Namibia Medicines Regulatory Council are: Dr Quincy Gurirab, Dr Miriam Mwaala, Dr Byron Bock, Paulus Simbo, Taimi Iipinge-Heita, Kim Dreyer-Tre’, Dr Vimanuka Mutjavikua, Dr Paul Set, Sylvia Hamata, Sr Maritjie Steinbach, and Grace Nakalondo.
