THE High Commission of India in Windhoek has announced the opening of applications for the ICCR India–Africa Maitri Scholarship Scheme, offering fully funded study opportunities for Namibian nationals to study in India for the 2026–2027 academic year. Applications will close on 15 April 2026.
The scholarships are offered by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) under the Government of India’s India–Africa Maitri Scholarship Scheme and provide opportunities for undergraduate, postgraduate and research-level studies at various universities and educational institutions across India.
According to the High Commission, the scholarship covers enrolment and course fees, living expenses for the full duration of the programme, and return economy-class airfare to the nearest international airport in India, as well as train travel to the place of study where required.
Applicants can apply through the ICCR’s Admissions to Alumni (A2A) Scholarship Portal, which provides detailed information about participating universities, available courses, application guidelines, eligibility criteria, and accommodation options. Candidates may apply to up to five universities of their choice through the portal.
The language of instruction for the programmes is English, and applicants must demonstrate proficiency in the language, including submitting a 500-word essay in English as part of the application process. Applicants may also submit TOEFL or IELTS scores, if available.
Candidates must be at least 18 years old, with the maximum age set at 40 years for undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma programmes, and 50 years for PhD studies.
Applicants are also required to submit a medical fitness certificate, a police clearance certificate, and obtain personal medical insurance with a minimum annual coverage of approximately USD 6,000. Those applying for M.Phil., doctoral or post-doctoral programmes must include a research synopsis with their application.
The ICCR further said that admission is not guaranteed upon application, as universities and educational institutions in India independently determine eligibility and confirm admissions based on their own criteria.
Interested applicants can also obtain further information from the High Commission of India in Windhoek through its official website (https://www.hciwindhoek.gov.in/wn-01-03-2026.php), email (cons.windhoek@mea.gov.in), or telephone (061-226037 / 061-228433).
