Woman accused of murder appears in court

Staff Reporter

ANDREA Ferris, a 46-year-old woman accused of murdering her brother-in-law, appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court and was remanded in custody after the state objected to the granting of bail on several grounds.

The alleged murder occurred on Sunday, 8 March 2026, at about 14:35 at a private residential community on the outskirts of Windhoek.

It is alleged that the deceased and his brother (the suspect’s ex-husband) were alerted by the 18-year-old about her mother, who was allegedly smashing items in the house. Upon their arrival, the suspect allegedly stormed toward them and stabbed the ex-husband twice. The ex-husband reportedly ran out of the house, leaving his brother behind. The suspect allegedly then attacked her brother-in-law, stabbing him several times with a knife. Emergency services were summoned and declared him dead at the scene.

The deceased has been identified as Abre Maasdorp, 40 years old, the brother-in-law of the suspect; the next of kin has been informed.

The suspect’s ex-husband is hospitalised and in stable condition.

The state prosecutor objected to the granting of bail, citing that key information and several witness statements still need to be collected, as well as the seriousness of the crime.

He added that granting bail would not be in the interest of the public. The matter was postponed to 4 June 2026.
