NAMIBIA and Zimbabwe have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, agreeing to fast-track Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to boost trade, investment, youth development, and cooperation in key sectors such as education, ICT, and agriculture.
The commitment was made during a courtesy visit by Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Namibia, Melody Chaurura, to Namibia’s Prime Minister Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare. The leaders highlighted the importance of social media and called for the revival of the Southern Times newspaper to share information on SADC projects and promote African cultures, values, and norms.
The two also praised the longstanding education agreement that enabled Namibian students to study science-based teaching programmes in Zimbabwe and discussed expanding youth empowerment initiatives, including exchange programmes through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.
Dr. Ngurare encouraged closer collaboration in the ICT sector, citing the achievements of Zimbabwean entrepreneur Strive Masiyiwa, particularly his artificial intelligence initiatives, as a stepping stone for Africa’s engagement in the global technology landscape.
Relations between Namibia and Zimbabwe are rooted in their shared liberation struggle and the historic ties between founding leaders Sam Nujoma and Robert Mugabe.
