Three officials arrested over water tank diversion

Staff Reporter

The ANTI-CORRUPTION Commission (Namibia) (ACC) has arrested three officials from the Directorate of Rural Water Supply within the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform (Namibia) in the Omaheke Region on allegations of corrupt practices relating to the requisition and distribution of community water tanks.

According to Manna Matundu, interim Spokesperson at the ACC, investigations by the ACC revealed that fraudulent requisitions were allegedly submitted to the Omaheke Regional Government Stores under false pretences for the collection of two 10,000-litre water tanks that were intended for the communities of Orunarongwe Post in the Otjinene Constituency and Otjijaura Post in the Epukiro Constituency.

“The investigation established that the water tanks were removed from the government stores during November 2025, but were allegedly diverted for the personal benefit of the officials or other private individuals instead of being delivered to the intended beneficiary communities. The two water tanks have since been recovered and seized from private individuals and are currently being returned to the Omaheke Regional Government Stores,” Matundu said.

She added that the three officials are expected to be formally charged and will appear before the Gobabis Magistrate’s Court today, 06 March 2026.

“The ACC remains committed to investigating and combating corruption to ensure that public resources intended to benefit communities are protected and used for their rightful purposes,” Matundu said.
