THE Ministry of International Relations has called for an immediate end to hostilities in the Middle East, highlighting dialogue and diplomatic engagement as the only viable route to lasting peace.
“The Government of the Republic of Namibia notes with grave concern the recent escalation of tensions in and around the Middle East, as a result of US and Israeli military actions undertaken on Saturday, 28 February 2026, against the Islamic Republic of Iran, which resulted in the death of the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, along with other national and military leaders and civilians,” the Ministry of International Relations stated.
The ministry emphasised that these developments heighten tensions in an already fragile region and risk further destabilising international peace and security, with far-reaching implications for regional stability.
“The Government of the Republic of Namibia reiterates its firm commitment to the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-interference in the internal affairs of states, as enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and international law. These principles are fundamental to the maintenance of a rules-based international order, particularly for small and developing states whose security and prosperity depend on respect for international norms,” the Ministry of International Relations added.
The ministry stressed that Namibia remains resolute in its support for multilateralism and called on the international community to step up efforts to prevent further loss of life and restore stability in the region.
“Namibia calls upon all parties concerned to exercise maximum restraint, ensure the immediate cessation of hostilities, and return to dialogue and diplomatic engagement as the only viable pathway towards sustainable peace. In this regard, Namibia aligns itself with the position of the African Union, calling for urgent de-escalation and renewed diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution to the crisis,” the ministry emphasised.
