Nandi-Ndaitwah celebrates Gladiators’ historic COSAFA win

PRESIDENT Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on Tuesday received Namibia’s women’s national football team, the Brave Gladiators, at State House following their historic triumph at the 2026 COSAFA Women’s Championship, where they defeated hosts South Africa 2–1 in the final to claim the regional title.

The reception was held in honour of the team’s outstanding performance throughout the tournament, which brought distinction to Namibia and marked a significant milestone in the country’s sporting history.

In her address, the President described the victory as a defining moment in Namibia’s sporting journey and commended the players, technical staff and administrators for their discipline, commitment and professionalism. She said the team’s success demonstrated the resilience, determination and capability of Namibian athletes, while inspiring national pride.

She also highlighted the team’s historic win over Zambia earlier in the tournament, adding that it reflected the steady progress of Namibian football and the growing competitiveness of the country’s sports sector.

Reaffirming Government’s commitment to advancing sport, Nandi-Ndaitwah emphasised the need for sustained investment in youth development, training opportunities and modern sporting infrastructure to nurture talent and strengthen national unity.

The ceremony concluded with expressions of appreciation to the team for representing the country with honour, with their achievement hailed as a testament to dedication, teamwork and belief.
