THE Ongoma Music Awards Competition (OMAC), a newly launched platform for celebrating Namibian culture through music, will hold its inaugural awards ceremony in Ongwediva, Oshana Region, in June this year.

Entries for the awards opened on Sunday and will close on the 30th of this month. Namibian artists are invited to submit their work to ongomamusicawards@gmail.com
or request an entry form there.

According to the organisers, the awards aim to promote traditional and cultural music; empower emerging artists and producers; strengthen Namibia’s creative industry; and provide national recognition for cultural excellence.

Entry songs should have been released between January 2024 and February 2026 in the following categories:

– Best Traditional Song

– Best GBV Campaign Song

– Best Newcomer

– Best Producer

– Best Cultural Music Video

Nominees will be officially announced during a special nomination event scheduled for April, after which public voting will commence. Entries will undergo a professional screening and adjudication process conducted by an independent panel of industry experts, and the winners will be determined through a combination of jury evaluation and public voting to ensure transparency and fairness.

According to the organizers, the cultural music awards platform is dedicated to celebrating and honoring Namibian artists who preserve and promote cultural heritage through music and whose songs effectively raise awareness, challenge harmful norms, promote the prevention of gender-based violence, and make a cultural and social impact.

“OMAC is more than an awards ceremony – it’s a movement to preserve, promote, and celebrate Namibian identity through music,” said the organisers in a statement.
