THE ongoing strike by employees of the Northern Electricity Distributor (NORED) could deprive residents of Ogongo, including the town, UNAM campus, and surrounding boarding schools, of water following a power outage at the Ogongo Water Treatment Plant. The outage, which began at 19:30 on Saturday, is affecting the plant’s ability to treat and pump water.
Namibia Water Corporation (NamWater) confirmed that without electricity, operations at the plant remain suspended. Efforts have been made to resolve the issue, including requests for essential NORED personnel to assist, but restoration of water supply remains beyond NamWater’s control while the strike continues.
Affected residents and institutions are urged to make necessary arrangements, and NamWater has apologised for the inconvenience, pledging to provide updates as the situation evolves.
In a related notice, NORED stated that delayed power restorations reported over the weekend are due to reduced staff availability caused by the industrial action. The electricity distributor emphasised its commitment to ongoing negotiations, aiming for a sustainable resolution that would allow normal operations to resume. NORED also thanked customers for their patience and understanding during this period.
