ABRAHAM Ndumbu, the controversial former leader of the SWAPO-affiliated faction of the Namibia National Students Organisation (NANSO), is behind bars.
It is alleged that he repeatedly raped a 13-year-old girl between February 2025 and January this year. A resident of Epy’eshona village in the Okatana Constituency of the Oshana Region, Ndumbu was arrested recently and has appeared in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court on a charge of rape.
Ndumbu is a former combatant of the People’s Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN) who, after the war, went back to school and became a student movement leader. He forcefully campaigned for NANSO’s continued affiliation to SWAPO, leading to a split in the student movement.
He was eventually expelled from the ruling party after clashing publicly with the Founding President Sam Nujoma. He then joined the Congress of Democrats (CoD) and briefly served as a parliamentarian in the early 2000s before moving on to co-found the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF), where he served as Commissar for Policy Research and Education.
Ndumbu was expelled from the NEFF in December 2020, accused of having misappropriated party monies — approximately N$60,000 — and of seeking to harm the party’s supreme leader Epafras Mukwiilongo by means of witchcraft.
