AN INCIDENT of rape which was reported to the police in the Omusati Region on Wednesday has added to the growing public perception that girls are no longer safe even in their own parents’ homes.
According to the police, a 17-year-old girl was raped by her biological father on several occasions between January and last Sunday.
The incident occurred in a traditional homestead in the Ohendjeno village, Okalongo constituency of the Omusati Region.
The suspect, who is the victim’s biological father, allegedly threatened her with a panga and a piece of metal and warned her that he would cut her head off should she dare reveal to anybody what he has done to her.
Both the suspect and victim reside in the same house. No arrest has been effected yet.
Incidents in which girls are raped by the very people who were supposed to protect them have multiplied in recent years.
