THE Namibian police in the Kavango East Region are investigating at least eight recent incidents of rape which involved either a serial rapist or several rapists using the same modus operandi.
The latest incident occurred in Rundu’s Kehemu location on Friday.
The 25-year-old was cleaning her room when an unknown man turned up and threatened her with a knife before raping her.
In all eight incidents in or near Rundu, the rapist wore a white mask and appeared and disappeared suddenly.
“We still do not know whether one suspect was involved in all eight incidents or whether there are several suspects using the same method,” said Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator Bonifatius Kanyetu.
He is of the opinion that, besides the eight rape incidents that were reported, there might be other victims.
He said that some rape victims choose silence, fearing stigma, which he said was unwarranted.
Kanyetu said that only when people report incidents of rape and other criminal acts will the police be able to apprehend the perpetrators and also prevent crime effectively.
