PERSISTENT, widespread showers continue to affect several parts of the country, causing flooding in some areas, and forecasts indicate that these conditions are far from over in certain regions.
Recent heavy rainfall has affected several areas across a number of regions. This includes Karibib in the Erongo Region, which received more than 60 millimetres (mm) of rain on Sunday, as well as Nabas in the //Kharas Region, which recorded over 80 mm on the same day.
Outapi in the Omusati Region is also among the towns that experienced heavy showers recently, resulting in flooded streets and forcing street vendors to suspend trading. The impact of the rainfall is visible in photos shared on Facebook by MICT Omusati, showing that a significant part of the northern town was flooded following the recent showers.

The recent showers also affected central areas, including Windhoek and Elisenheim in the Khomas Region, which continue to experience consistent rainfall, although not quite as heavy as in other parts of the country.
Persistent showers were also recorded in the south, including in Maltahöhe in the Hardap Region, as well as in Ariamsvlei, Bethanie and Zabubegas in the //Kharas Region. These recent showers had a significant impact in the south, where vehicles were swept away by rising river currents near Mariental. The occupants were later rescued by the Namibian Police (Nampol), and State Emergency personnel, among others.
The public is advised to exercise caution, as heavy showers are expected to persist, particularly in the southern parts of the country, increasing the risk of flash floods. The public is especially urged to refrain from crossing rivers or driving through flooded streets.
