PRESIDENT Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has reaffirmed Namibia’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties with the Republic of Congo following high-level talks aimed at expanding cooperation in mineral development, infrastructure, water security and the oil and gas sector.

Nandi-Ndaitwah held a courtesy meeting with Denis Christel Sassou Nguesso, Minister of International Cooperation and Promotion of Public Private Partnerships of the Republic of Congo.

Sassou Nguesso was accompanied by Ghislain Thierry Maguessa Ebomé, Minister of Technical and Vocational Education of the Republic of Congo, as well as Lauria Ngayino Nguele, Ambassador of the Republic of Congo to Namibia.

The meeting reaffirmed the longstanding relations between Namibia and the Republic of Congo, rooted in shared history and solidarity dating back to Namibia’s liberation struggle.

Discussions centred on expanding cooperation between the two countries, particularly as both Namibia and Congo are mineral-based economies. The leaders explored collaboration in mineral development and value addition, infrastructure expansion, and strengthening water security.

Nandi-Ndaitwah added that Namibia would welcome the Republic of Congo’s expertise in the oil and gas sector as the country advances its emerging oil and gas industry, highlighting opportunities for knowledge sharing and technical cooperation.

The revival of the Loudima Technical Secondary School, a joint Namibia–Congo project, also featured prominently in the discussions. The institution holds historical significance, having trained Namibians in exile during the liberation struggle. Its restoration is expected to provide renewed technical and vocational training opportunities for young people from both countries.
