Heavy rain hits multiple areas

THURSDAY and Friday brought widespread showers across several regions of the country, with many areas recording more than 30 mm of rain.

Tsumeb in the Oshikoto Region was among the hardest hit, recording an impressive 60 mm of rain on Thursday.

Gobabis in the Omaheke Region also experienced significant rainfall, with the downpour leaving some streets flooded. The eastern town recorded about 25 mm on Thursday, followed by further showers exceeding 20 mm on Friday morning.



The central and southern parts of the country were also affected by Thursday and Friday’s showers. In the central region, Windhoek received considerable rainfall, with some areas recording 10 mm and others around 20 mm on Thursday. Elisenheim also recorded about 20 mm, while Finkenstein saw heavier rainfall of 40 mm between Thursday and Friday morning.

In the south, Aranos recorded 30 mm of rain, while Farm Uitkoms near Aranos received 31 mm on Thursday. Blumtal in the //Kharas Region recorded 32 mm, and Khabib saw 18 mm of rainfall.

More showers are expected, possibly affecting multiple areas, including the northern regions as well as the Khomas, Omaheke and Hardap regions. The public is urged to remain cautious, as the risk of flash floods in some areas remains high.
