UNITED States Ambassador to Namibia, John Giordano, visited Walvis Bay alongside senior officials from the U.S. Department of Energy to assess Namibia’s rapidly evolving energy sector and explore opportunities for American investment, expertise, and technology to strengthen US–Namibia energy cooperation. The delegation’s visit focused on initiatives that can create jobs and support economic growth in both countries.
During the tour, the delegation visited Baker Hughes Energy Technology, a Walvis Bay–based company providing solutions for energy and industrial clients worldwide. The facility includes a liquid mud plant, a cement bulk facility, and an integrated multi-modal operations hub. Ambassador Giordano praised Baker Hughes for investing in local talent, providing training in Namibia and abroad, and sharing advanced technical knowledge with young Namibians.
“This is an incredible example of American competitiveness and how American businesses operate abroad,” Giordano said. “As the energy industry expands here, there are many jobs on the horizon for local Namibians. American technology and innovation are powering both our economies while growing the Namibian energy sector, particularly around the Orange Basin and the critical minerals industry, which is vitally important to both our countries.”
The delegation, which included U.S. Department of Energy Special Envoy for Global Energy Integration Joshua Volz and Senior Advisor Mike Kopp, aimed to identify areas where U.S. expertise and investment can advance energy security, industrial growth, and economic development in Namibia.
The visit underscores growing cooperation between the United States and Namibia in the energy and resources sector, highlighting Namibia’s emergence as a strategic player in the regional and global energy landscape.
