A 58-YEAR-OLD male resident of Grootfontein has been arrested in connection with a case of assault by threatening and conspiracy to commit murder (CR11/02/2026).
The case involves alleged death threats targeting Kristiana Erastus, the 40-year-old control prosecutor at Grootfontein, and comes after the death on Saturday of Ondangwa-based state prosecutor Justine Shiweda, who succumbed to wounds she suffered in a violent attack in October last year.
Erastus is said to have received a note that stated: “Do not let the Ondangwa incident repeat itself in Grootfontein. Transfer yourself; even your own colleagues and the Grootfontein community don’t like you. Go early before it’s late.”
Maureen Mbeha, police spokesperson for the Otjozondjupa Region, said that paper notes were dropped at various places around town.
Late Shiweda was shot and acid was thrown at her while she was preparing to go to work on 17 October 2025. She died of her wounds on Saturday.
Her body arrives at the Andimba Toivo ya Toivo Airport at Ondangwa later this afternoon, and the memorial service takes place in Onambango village on the outskirts of Ondangwa town, where the funeral also takes place on Saturday.
