THE US government regards Namibia as a regional leader in sound mining policy and responsible governance, making it an attractive destination for responsible investment in minerals development.

United States Ambassador to Namibia John Giordano this week held talks with the Deputy Minister of Industrialisation, Mines and Energy, Gaudentia Krohne, on expanding the US–Namibia partnership in critical minerals. The discussions focused on how American technical expertise, innovation and investment showcased at the recent Mining Indaba could be brought to Namibia to support job creation, industrial development and energy security.

Giordano also met with the Chamber of Mines of Namibia chief executive officer, Veston Malango, where they discussed the role of US companies in Namibia’s mining sector. The ambassador said Namibia is a regional leader in sound mining policy and responsible governance, making it an attractive destination for responsible investment in minerals development.

The meetings highlighted opportunities for US firms to bring innovation, technical know-how and best practices in responsible mining management to Namibia, with the aim of strengthening local value chains and supporting sustainable economic growth.

Commenting on the strong US participation at the Mining Indaba, Giordano said it reflected a shift in Washington’s approach to Africa towards investment-driven partnerships.

“The robust US presence demonstrates that the United States is focused on investment and engaging African nations as capable commercial partners in mutually beneficial partnerships. Increasing US investment in Africa will create quality jobs, foster skills development and support local communities on the continent,” he said.
