THE Inspector General of the Namibian police is set to engage farmers in the south on issues related to crime and challenges faced with regard to the rising issue of stock theft.
Farmers in the area have thus called for community members in the areas of Mariental, Padstal and Trentyre, Gochas – Shop (Pieter vdW), Stampriet – OK Grocer and KaapAgri to sign a petition against the release of three police officers who were granted bail at Aranos after being involved in stock theft.
The three officers are accused of the theft of a sheep’s carcass and two bags of intestines worth N$2,000 at Aranos.
The money was, however, recovered.
The incident occurred on 28 January 2026 at around 23:00, about 15 km outside the town in the Hardap Region, when a police vehicle and a bakkie were involved in an accident after hitting a kudu.
The police vehicle allegedly proceeded to a farm a few kilometres outside Aranos and unlawfully took one sheep carcass and two bags of intestines.
Following the incident, the entire Hardap Region is also invited to a meeting on Wednesday, 11 February, at 11:00 at the Roman Catholic Hall in Aranos location, as NamPol Inspector General Shikongo will address the community, which will include the hearing of complaints from the community about NamPol service and interactions.
