NAMIBIA’S T20 Cricket World Cup 2026 campaign got off to a challenging start, as the Eagles were defeated by the Netherlands by seven wickets in Delhi. Chasing 157, the Dutch side reached their target in 18 overs, leaving Namibia to rue missed opportunities with both bat and ball.
Electing to bat first, Namibia posted 156/8 in their 20 overs. A second-wicket partnership between Jan Frylinck (30) and Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton (42) helped steady the innings, while JJ Smit added a valuable 22 runs. Captain Gerhard Erasmus contributed a quickfire 18 but was dismissed midway through the innings, and Namibia lost momentum in the latter overs despite some big hitting, finishing just over 150.
Aryan Dutt, Logan Van Beek, and Bas De Leede were key for the Netherlands with the ball, each claiming crucial wickets to prevent Namibia from posting a higher total.
In reply, the Netherlands made a confident start, scoring 50 in the powerplay. Early wickets slowed their momentum, but a 70-run partnership between Bas De Leede and Colin Ackermann (32) steadied the chase. De Leede finished unbeaten on 72 off 48 balls, hitting five fours and four sixes to guide the Netherlands to 159/3 in 18 overs and secure their first win of the tournament.
Namibia will now look to regroup for their next match against India on 12 February at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, aiming to bounce back and get their World Cup campaign back on track.
