PRESIDENT Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has urged all SWAPO Party members to fully dedicate themselves to ensuring the successful implementation of the SWAPO Party Election Manifesto and its Implementation Plan, as integrated into the 6th National Development Plan (NDP6).
“Let there be no misunderstanding. The SWAPO Party expects all its deployees, including myself, to demonstrate total commitment to the implementation of the SWAPO Party Election Manifesto and its Implementation Plan as transformed into the 6th National Development Plan (NDP6),” she said.
The president made these remarks at the Induction Workshop for SWAPO Party Members of the 8th Parliament, held in Windhoek. The workshop was conducted under the theme “Parliamentarians Geared Towards Results-Oriented Leadership.”
She emphasised that the SWAPO Party holds the majority in the National Assembly, controls the National Council and Regional Councils, as well as most Local Authorities. According to her, this means that members have no excuse not to coordinate their work and provide quality services to the public.
“The Namibian people have elected us with a purpose and this is the time to ensure that we maintain and restore the dominance of SWAPO Party by ensuring that we deliver on our mandate. As Members of Parliament, your legal mandate is clearly stipulated in our national constitution. Therefore, this workshop is aimed to prepare and to empower our Members of Parliament to serve our people as a team and in a coordinated manner, in the fulfilment of your constitutional obligations,” she added.
She urged the members to take the workshop seriously, stressing that results-oriented leadership demands thorough preparation, a deep understanding of issues, and the ability to transform policy into law, law into action, and action into real improvements in the lives of our citizens.
“Yes, you belong to different houses, the National Assembly and National Council. However, what is common you are all Members of Parliament with a responsibility of making laws and oversight on matters of national importance. Against this background, it is important that you have a common understanding of issues. Hence, the different topics that are chosen for this workshop,” the president added.
