MTC Maris partners with Kazang

THE Mobile Telecommunications Limited’s mobile financial service (MTC Maris) has signed an agreement with Kazang, one of Africa’s leading mobile money and digital payment distributors.

The agreement will see the expansion of Maris services countrywide.

In its strategic drive to make mobile money services easily accessible to all Namibians, particularly underserved and hard-to-reach communities, MTC Maris has partnered with Kazang.

According to MTC Maris executive director Kayembe Ilunga, Kazang brings to the partnership an extensive national footprint of more than 5,500 agents across the country.

“This extensive physical network provides Maris with instant reach into high-density urban areas, informal settlements and remote rural communities,” said Ilunga, adding that the partnership signifies a bold commitment to advance the mandate of Maris and its vision of 100% financial inclusion in Namibia.

“Through this partnership,” he said, “we will drive and accelerate our core mandate of ensuring that every Namibian, regardless of location or economic status, can access essential financial services through a trusted local agent.”

Kazang has vast established distribution points, allowing MTC Maris to deepen financial inclusion by reducing travel time and cost for customers needing cash-in, cash-out or wallet services.

Said Ilunga: “It enables us to provide secure and regulated e-money channels that are in line with Namibia’s Anti-Money Laundering and Bank of Namibia’s requirements.”

Ilunga also revealed that Maris currently has over 500,000 registered customers.

He said that while onboarding Kazang is quite a milestone, more is yet to be done. “We continue to mature our operational, technical and agent-support capabilities, ensuring that as the network grows, service quality grows with it. Hence, we are investing in field support, training, compliance and customer-centred offerings,” he said.
