PRIME Minister Dr. Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare has called for stronger regional coordination and practical solutions to improve service delivery in the education sector following a high-level meeting with Regional Directors of Education from all 14 regions.
The meeting, held in Windhoek, focused on strengthening regional development, addressing challenges within the education system and setting priorities for 2026. It provided a platform for regional directors to exchange ideas, share experiences and propose solutions aimed at improving learning outcomes and school management across the country.

Key issues discussed included the need for increased local sourcing, innovative approaches to education delivery and enhanced psycho-social support for learners and teachers. The meeting also highlighted several practical proposals, such as the provision of transport, including combis, for schools, the introduction of Daily Subsistence Allowances for teachers and school officials, and the use of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes to assist with the rehabilitation of school infrastructure.
Dr. Ngurare urged regional directors to adopt a proactive and hands-on approach in their work, encouraging them to conduct unannounced school visits where necessary to strengthen oversight and accountability. He further emphasised the importance of teamwork, coordination, effective communication and the sharing of best practices among regions to accelerate progress and ensure tangible improvements in the education sector nationwide.
