Heatwave to persist in the south

Staff Reporter

WHILE recent weather in many parts of the country has been marked by cloudy skies and light to moderate rainfall, the south is still battling a relentless heatwave, with temperatures in some areas expected to near 40 °C this week.

Namibia Meteorological Services predictions indicate that the brunt of the heatwave will be felt in the //Kharas Region, where Noordoewer, Aroab, and Keetmanshoop are expected to see temperatures rise to 39 °C today. The Hardap Region will also feel the heat, with places such as Maltahöhe and Mariental expected to see temperatures reach 37 to 38 °C.

However, the heatwave is set to continue beyond today. In fact, Namibia Meteorological Services predicted that it will persist until Wednesday, prolonging the sweltering conditions in the south.

The northern parts of the country will likely also be sunny, with a few places expected to also get particularly hot. Maximum temperatures ranging between 32 °C and 37 °C are expected in the northern parts of the country, with the Kavango regions particularly affected by high temperatures.

However, there is some relief on the horizon for northern residents, as rainfall is expected in the northern regions tomorrow, albeit isolated and scattered.
