Junior tennis teams represent Namibia at regional championships

NAMIBIA’S junior tennis teams have departed for Botswana to compete in the Southern African Junior Individual and Team Championships, with the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture (MEIYSAC) and the Namibia Tennis Association (NTA) expressing confidence in the young players as they prepare to represent the country at regional level.

The Under-14 and Under-16 national teams will take part in the championships, scheduled to be held in Gaborone from 9 to 17 January 2025. Namibia has selected a 12-member squad comprising three Under-14 boys, three Under-14 girls, three Under-16 girls and three Under-16 boys, chosen on the basis of performance and potential.

The teams were officially sent off by MEIYSAC, in collaboration with the NTA. Speaking at the send-off ceremony, Regional Sport Officer Mara Kandjiriomuini commended the players for their dedication and assured them of the Ministry’s continued support. She said MEIYSAC had made every effort to provide the team with the necessary logistical assistance to ensure a smooth campaign.

Junior Tennis Committee chairperson Daniel du Toit also addressed the players, expressing confidence in their abilities and encouraging them to give their best both on and off the court. He reminded the young athletes to conduct themselves responsibly as ambassadors of Namibia and wished them success at the championships in Botswana.
