Police breakthrough in the housebreaking case at Mayor Hango’s residence

Staff Reporter

THE Namibian police in the Oshana Region have achieved a breakthrough in the case of housebreaking in which thieves targeted the residence of the Mayor of Oshakati, Leonard Hango, shortly before Christmas Day.

Hango’s residence — which he left in the care of a security guard — was broken into while he was on vacation.

The stolen items included a pistol and the mayor’s white Toyota Land Cruiser, which was found abandoned shortly after the crime was committed.

Two suspects were arrested yesterday more than a hundred kilometres apart.
According to the police, a 31-year-old male suspect was traced and arrested in the Onkumbula area of the Oshikoto Region, while the second suspect was apprehended at Okaandje in the Ongwediva policing area of the Oshana Region.

The breakthrough came when two Serious Crime detectives travelled from Oshana to Onkumbula, where they found and arrested the suspect at around 11:40.

The second suspect, of unknown age, was arrested afterwards at Okaandje, in the vicinity of Ongwediva, where the stolen 9mm CZ pistol was recovered together with a pair of Bova safety boots, a pair of Converse All Star sneakers, and a Samsung Galaxy Note Lite.
