PRESIDENT Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has appointed Ebson Uanguta as the new Governor of the Bank of Namibia, effective 1 January 2026, for a five-year term, succeeding outgoing Governor Dr Johannes !Gawaxab.
The appointment was announced by the Presidency, adding that Uanguta brings extensive institutional experience to the role, having served as Deputy Governor of the central bank since 1 January 2012. During this period, he played a key role in policy formulation, governance, and oversight at the Bank of Namibia.
Uanguta’s appointment was made in terms of Article 32(4)(b)(bb) of the Constitution of the Republic of Namibia, read together with Section 6(1) of the Public Service Commission Act, 1990, as well as Sections 19(3) and 21 of the Bank of Namibia Act, 2020.
In conveying the appointment, President Nandi-Ndaitwah expressed confidence in Uanguta’s ability to discharge his duties with professionalism, integrity, fairness, and loyalty to the Constitution and laws of Namibia, while upholding the mandate of the central bank. She wished him success in his new role and expressed trust that he would serve the Republic with distinction.
The Bank of Namibia plays a central role in safeguarding monetary and financial stability, maintaining a sound financial system, and supporting sustainable economic development. Uanguta’s appointment comes at a time when the country continues efforts to consolidate economic stability and strengthen financial governance.
