THE German Embassy has provided financial support to the Ombetja Yehinga Organisation (OYO) to strengthen nationwide efforts against gender-based violence (GBV) during the 16 Days of Activism campaign.

The funding, valued at more than N$260,000 (approximately €13,500), will enable OYO to host three days of GBV-awareness activities in Okahandja, Usakos and Keetmanshoop — communities that have been particularly affected by gender-related violence this year.

OYO’s programme will include dance performances, an exhibition titled The Caring Namibian Man, screenings of short films such as Be a Lady and Be a Man, and facilitated inter-generational discussions. A mobile clinic and youth counsellor will be available at each event to provide support and guidance.

Speaking during the signing of the funding agreement on Wednesday, 5 November 2025, Ambassador Dr Thorsten Hutter said Germany was committed to supporting Namibia’s efforts to tackle GBV.

“Gender-based violence is unacceptable. I am grateful to the Namibian government for addressing this important issue through a public campaign, and pleased that the Embassy can contribute this year by supporting OYO’s renowned and excellent troupe,” Hutter said.

OYO, registered as a trust in Namibia since 2002, focuses on raising awareness among young people on social issues including drug and alcohol abuse, teenage pregnancy, discrimination, stigma and gender-based violence.
